Success isn't a one-hit wonder, nor and act of throwing everything on black and hoping you win. Rather, it is the series of decisions that encompass long-term strategic thinking with emphasis on making tough decisions now, so that later we can better set up. This means that when we make decisions on whatever it may be, we cannot be blinded in thinking how this will impact me right now, but how will this impact me down the road. Yes, there are decisions that have immediate impacts and these decisions create our long-term results, but what I am really getting at is a style of thinking that weighs in how we process our actions, or in actions, our yes' or no's, our immediate gratification or delayed enjoyment in the present moment to better create a foundation that is more solid in the years ahead. The future is subjective in that it is unique to each of our interpretations of it, but what doesn't change is the impact of our current decisions on the future self.
No sacrifices should be made now that we are not willing to face later. These can be good and bad. When building relationships, we must focus on what we are doing now to support and help those around us. When building our business we must think about doing things right to our customers, employees and vendors even if in the short term it might seem like a expense. We must say no to things that don't support our vision of health now, so that in the future we are now weighed down by our lack of. Long-term thinking requires present, objective analysis of our choices now. Short term thinking doesn't necessarily think about the repercussions of the future. It wants that dopamine hit now. Unfortunately, too much short term thinking leads to a life of putting our fires and thinking all too often of what "I should of done". The future is no secret, at least it shouldn't be. Aside from the unexpected trials out of our control which do happen, most of the future is created by what we do now and how we prepare in the present moment. Think long-term.
