It is with great appreciation that I share that an abstract collaborating with Dr. Paul Weber, Jhillika Patel, Daniel Lam, Abhishek Chakraborty, Trisha Sindhu, Sanjana Eranki, and Isabella Tan, named "Elucidating Barriers to Student Entrepreneurship to Improve Access and Equity" has been accepted for presentation during the upcoming American Medical Association ChangeMedEd® Conference between September 27 to 29 in Chicago, IL, within the category of Health System Science! We discussed our formative Health Innovation Summit led by the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Biomedical Entrepreneurship Network which hosted industry leaders such as Liz Kwo, MD, MBA, MPH, Steven Spencer, MD, MPH, MBA, Stephen Klasko, Jen Zhu, among many others, discussing transformative digital health developments across medical schools in the United States. Following a thematic analysis of our cohort, we identified key driving factors for innovation across medical education, in addition to illuminating the barriers which prevent institutions from offering didactic education in entrepreneurship. During the conference we hope to share our findings broadly, to determine what actions can be made to facilitate a ubiquitous uptake of health innovation summits which sustainably enhance student entrepreneurship in graduate medical education.#digitalhealth #innovation #entrepreneurship

Taken on autumn in 2008, a younger version of me was in the New York Grand Central after an interview at one of the New York hospitals after my US medical board exam. I was supposed to get in however, I mentioned that I have a research idea that would transform or change the way we compute the mean arterial pressure and it will definitely change the way we look at blood pressure and ultimately change the way we look at hemodynamics and likely change the course of cardiology. Turned out that my interviewer was from Harvard. He didn't want me to get into that hospital because it is a community hospital and urged me I should belong to a research hospital like Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic or Harvard MGH. I didn't apply there initially as it was nearly impossible for me to get in let alone a foreign medical graduate. I didn't make it. Life has its ups and downs. Fast forward 8 years later, for some sort of serendipity, I became a research professor teaching one of the most difficult courses in medicine, medical research. 4 years later, I got to know a famous Stanford University professor from Silicon Valley who taught me everything in MBA to set up a tech company from the ground up. 2 years later, I landed here in the United Kingdom on my own without knowing anybody..it was difficult but used my MBA skills to survive and network. After a year, now, I'm trying to get into one of the most elite societies in the world. I plan to do good things, be a better man, make great connections, build a company and hopefully make it to Silicon Valley where I can make a dent in the universe.#journey#MBA#USA#SiliconValley#HEVMBA

This great initiative makes me recall a conversation I had with a family member during Christmas in 2009 (I remember the year because we expected our first child 😊). At that time, I was only just starting my journey into academia…We discussed the competitive nature and need for “sharp elbows” in academia, and whether it is possible to have a career in academia without having to deal with this. My somewhat naïve approach was that “it must be different in health/rehabilitation science”, since the Race to Discovery could only be less dominant in such a complex scientific field where teamwork and collaboration is a must, and patents are rarely the goal. From multiple discussions with friends from a variety of different research disciplines during the years, I still believe that being in health science offers something different from the “standard” competitive research environment, at least when compared to some other disciplines. Is there room for improvement? Certainly…! To me, kindness and propriety are core values in all aspects of life and something to strive for. Hopefully this initiative will help us all create awareness about this, not only in research training, but across the life in academia.

I am excited to say that my experience in the Medical Research program at Georgetown University has been nothing short of extraordinary!I spent a wonderful time at Georgetown University's Medical Research program. It was a life-changing experience that broadened my understanding and sparked my interest in scientific research. The hands-on lab work and mentoring from experienced mentors enabled me to build critical research skills and a thorough grasp of numerous scientific fields. Learning about cutting-edge medical advances like genomics and personalized treatment was especially exciting. The curriculum improved my scientific knowledge and my communication and presentation abilities. I am glad for the chance to participate in this program, and I am now more inspired than ever to pursue a career in medical research and contribute to healthcare improvement. My PICO Questions was:In adult patients with lung cancer (P), does the use of treatment strategies or participation in clinical trials (I) compared to standard lung cancer treatments or the current standard of care (C) lead to improved patient outcomes, increased likelihood of remission, or long-term illness control, and enhanced quality of life (O)?"I am really thankful for my mentor Aparna Dev and the whole research community at Georgetown University!#experience #community #healthcare #work #learning #communication #career #quality #research #university #mentoring #clinicaltrials #medical #medicalresearch

"Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. In a most delightful way." Julie Andrews, Mary Poppins (1964).While there are already pioneering research efforts and philanthropic donations making significant breakthroughs in medical sciences at QUT and other universities; the establishment of QUT's School of Clinical Medicine will further empower and amplify these advancements, fostering an even more significant potential for transformative impact. As a person passionate about philanthropy and healthcare, I foresee a world of possibilities for philanthropic giving to the university and the broader philanthropic community in Australia. 🤝 Collaboration for Progress: With a dedicated School of Clinical Medicine taking shape, the stage is set for increased philanthropic support amongst a well-established giving program at the University. 3rd year of medical school was filled with growth, as well as transforming "I'm not good enough", "I'm not capable," "I don't have what it takes" to "I'm more than enough," "Heck yes I'm capable," and "I got everything it takes." I found my niche within medicine, got 3 papers published, was awarded 3 fellowships, and presented my different research projects at 5 different symposiums. And my favorite part: during this time I've been the healthiest and strongest in terms of physical fitness like never before! It always works out when it is all about learning, growing, and enjoying the journey (and going to the gym at 4:30am)Step 2 ➡ Done!4th year of medical soon ➡ See ya next week! Hi All! I just wanted to inform you of news I was super excited about. The Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, the Southern California University of Health Sciences, and Cornerstone Collaboration have come together to create a PhD Program in which you can become a Doctor of Whole Health Leadership. Many of us physicians are fed up with the current system and culture of medicine and the business model it currently uses. It feeds the bottom line ($), but leaves both health care providers and patients empty and wanting an experience that is quality over quantity. With the current state of medicine as it is and over a hundred thousand physicians leaving medicine every year since the pandemic, we are headed into a public health crisis. My sense is that the current system of medicine will crumble and this dissolution will allow for a new, healthier system to emerge. The goal of this program is to provide physicians, allied health professionals, and administrators with knowledge and leadership tools to help set the foundation for this new, healthier medical system. If you're interested in learning more I encourage you to take a peek because, currently, at least as far as I know, this program is unique to its mission:https://lnkd.in/eS3aMeDf(FYI, I don't have any financial disclosures with this program. I'm simply sharing this with you because I strongly feel that things need to change... otherwise we suffer both as physicians and as patients... and if we have the power, knowledge, means, and motivation to make a difference, then we should.)
