Search and Destroyis the 25th main story mission inCyberpunk 2077 (CP77).This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives, paths, dialogues, choices andendings of theSearch and DestroyMain Job.

Area: Japantown
Quest Giver: Takemura
Requirement: Completed Main Story mission Play It Safe
Mission Info: Know what my downside is? No matter how much I might want to, I don’t make f*cking mistakes. Lo and behold! Our factory-reset ronin, hounded by every single Arasaka soldier in Night City for KIDNAPPING Saburo Arasaka’s daughter. Kudos to him – I couldn’t have f*cked this plan up better myself. And after all this, he STILL wants you to drop by? I don’t know who’s more whacked – him or us. Just remember to knock four times. His head, preferably – against a f*cking table.

Objectives:

  • Get to the hideout
  • Knock on the door
  • Talk to Takemura
  • Talk to Hanako Arasaka
  • Check the door
  • Return to Takemura
  • Leave the Building
  • Try to save Takemura (Optional)*
  • Escape the apartment (Optional)*

* Must be completed to avoid missing‘The Devil’ trophy/achievement.

Starting Location:Search and Destroy

Search and Destroy begins automatically as you return to street level after completing Play It Safe. This is a straightforward mission that has a not obvious branching point that will affect whether or not you will miss a trophy at the end of the game.

Get to the hideout

Follow the waypoint to Takemura’s hideout. You’ll want to go upstairs to room 303 (Good thing it wasn’t room 404 or he wouldn’t be home).

Knock on the door

When you get to room 303, important thing to remember: KNOCK FOUR TIMES.If you knock a different number of times you will be blown up by a trap and die.

Talk to Takemura

Inside Takemura will explain his rash actions, and explain the stakes. You’ll have to be the one to convince her.

Talk to Hanako Arasaka

Use any dialogue you wish to progress through the scene. Hanako-sama doesn’t seem to be entirely convinced, but you’re out of time. Did you hear that?

Check the door

Hm. Nothing in the hallway. Looks like we’re okay… oh crap.

Return to Takemura

Head back towards Takemura to join him in this Charlie Foxtrot already in progress.

Leave the Building

Separated from Takemura, you will have to fight your way through the Arasaka soldiers to escape. As soon as you stand up, and go into the hallway, you’ll encounter a crucial but very missable branch in the storyline. If you follow the obvious path to the right, you will be abandoning Takemura to die. This will lock you out of getting the trophy/achievement The Devil.

Instead you can go through the hole in the wall to the left (see the screenshots above) which will allow you to backtrack to the third floor and save Takemura. Which you definitely should.

Try to save Takemura (Optional) – HIGHLY MISSABLE

Again, this isn’t really something you should opt out of. Head through the hole in the wall and through the next room, eliminating Arasaka Soliders as you go.

There are plenty of explosive objects in the area to make this task simpler. After going through the next room, you’ll reach a stairwell leading up. Ignore the waypoint marker showing the exit to the right, and go up the stairs. Of course the second you do, Johnny will start bitching at you for sticking your neck out for Takemura.

There will be one soldier right outside the stairwell, and three more in the hallway leading back to Takemura’s hideout.

Escape the apartment (Optional)

Inside, you’ll find three Arasaka Soldiers and Takemura having the closest range full auto gunfight I’ve ever seen. Kill all three before they even realize you’re there.

Follow Takemura as he leads you to an alternate escape route, killing Arasaka soldiers as you go.

The room at the end of the hall has a huge hole in the floor you can use as a shortcut to reach the room below which is right next to the exit.

Follow the flare to the stairs down which dumps you out right by the exit.

Follow the waypoint to escape, and finish the mission.

Important:You will know that you saved Takemura correctly if he appears and talks to you after leaping out the exit door. Then you did everything right and you can earn ‘The Devil’ trophy / achievement. If Takemura doesn’t talk to you after leaping out the door, you made a mistake and should reload your latest autosave to retry. Do not advance unless you saved Takemura!
