ProSouth brought their carnival troupe to the RCW Arena in Chatsworth Saturday night for the promotions Georgia debut.
The crowd was a split between hardcore fans of both promotions. 75 people in the attendance tops. They were loud during the first half, peaking for the YouTube title match before intermission, but never got back to that level during the second half.
The work ethic of the ProSouth crew is beyond reproach. They busted ass to put on the best show possible. They're all about the art form.
The YouTube title match, a triple threat between Champion Caeden Ooten, Dameon Ceretone and RCW Champion Chris Crunk was the best match of the night. Aaron Dallas successfully defended the ProSouth Championship in another triple threat in a match for daredevils only.
The RCW building has existed as wrestling venue for over 30 years. It was lying fallow a few years back. Tyler Gazaway renovated it for Renegade Championship Wrestling. It's supremely serviceable for a crowd of 150. The acoustics are incredible. Llightng wasn't bad but nothing like what ProSouth has at home. The bleachers are comfortably carpeted and provide great sight angles. The sign at right was posted in a somewhat surreal backstage area.
ProSouth announced a return date for the RCW Arena on June 22 with Hell Has Frozen Over.
The show was taped for later release on the ProSouth YouTube Channel with Wicked Nemesis and Mathias Darkthorne on commentary.
(1) Zack Buchanan defeated Brandon Whatley via DQ in 5:33. Crowd behind Zack, who was pressuring Whatley big time. Whatley shoved referee Fort Worth into Zack and attacked him with the nunchucks.
Crowd was into Zack who just turned is 18. He's got the pedigree, athletic talent to burn and is also a really good looking kid which doesn't hurt in any line work especially pro wrestling. Whatley wasn't going to lose to him going into the title match at Spring Spectacular but he didn't beat him clean.
(2) Chosen Ones (Ace Haven & Cameron Keast with Amy Haven) defeated AJ Black & Jaden Vain in 9:47. Cam kicked out of Black & Vain's 3D. Keast gave Vain the finger snapper and pinned Black after Chosen Ones hit him with the Coronation quadruple whammy.
Postmatch, Keast threw a fireball in Vain's face outside the ring. A kid in the front row got a little to close to the fire and it made his night.
A solid tag match with really good heat. Black has the makings of good heel. He's got the attitude. At this stage, Vain is a more natural babyface.
(3) Brother Azriel defeated Ozzy Owens in 9:05. Az addled Ozzy with headbutts. They brawled on the at ringside. Ozzy went Azriel into the post. Back inside, Azriel ducked a lariat but Owens got him with a northern lariat. Owens hit a chokebomb but was slow to cover due to damage taken and Az kicked out. Azriel then pinned Owenswith the Woodgrain piledriver.
A stout hoss fight. Didn't have quite the heat of the first two matches. Keep those headbutts Az. I had flashback to Bobo Brazil.
(4) Caeden Ooten defeated Chris Crunk (with Joey Gambino) and Dameon Ceretone, pinning Ceretone to retain the YouTube Championship in 12:02. The heels teamed up against Crunk early. He came roaring back with round the world Yakuka kicks for both of them. Ceretone dished out a helping of those hellacious chops he's been throwing lately on Crunk.Ooten gave Crunk a standing gourdbuster. Crunk leveled Ceretone and Ooten with a double clothesine and hit a GTS on Ooten.
Fast forward to the finish - Ceretone gave Crunk his DVD into the turnbuckles. When Crunk kicked out, Ceeton grabbed a chair but Gambino snatched the chair out of his hand. Ceretone decked Gambino.Crunk hit One Last Breath on Ceretone. Ooten gave Crunk a low blow and dropped him on Ceretone with Loaded Gun Complex.
Smooth stuff for a three way with great energy and pacing. Crowd was on fire. Crunk is insanely over in this building as the RCW Champion and Gambino is a piece of work. Most matches fade away in my memory. This one stuck.
(5) Jake Franklin defeated Space Cowboy in 5:54. Jake won with a shaky springboard leg drop.
Jesus this was rough. Crowd not feeling it. It died an ugly death.
(6) Wright Cats (Saul Wright & Bobcat) defeated Serpent Ninja Academy (Hakeem Young & Julius Pryor) to retain the ProSouth Tag Team Championship in 10:33. Bobcat took heat. The action strayed too close to the babyface corner. Bobcat could have tagged and didn't. Shame on the heels for allowing that scenario to happen. Pryor hit a rolling thunder senton on Bobcat. Crossbody collision into the Saul vs Hakeem showdown. Saul hit the Johnny Paycheck on Pryor.Hakeem blasted the Saul and the ref with the belt and splashed Saul off the top. Pryor forced ref Justin Patterson's limp arm to make the three count.
Commissioner Amy said no way it's going down like this and restarted the match. Wright Cats with a sitout faceplant/cutter combo and Saul pinned Pryor.
Post match, SNA sh*tcanned Saul. Pryor took the ref out with a judo toss. They piled all the title belts on top of Bobcat and Young splashed him off the top rope.
Well played. Bobcat played babyface-in-peril to the hilt. They held off Hakeem vs. Young until the very last. Champs over with a nice combo. ProSouth has hit on something with this configuration of SNA. Young and Pryor are a talented team and Whatley is the right guy to lead them.
(7) Aaron Dallas defeated Shean Christopher (with Ravenna Vein) and Ayden Andrews to retain the ProSouth Championship in 20:05. What didn't they do in this match? I'll just hit on a few things. Dallas and Andrews chopped each other until their chests were beet red. Christopher took a sick powerbomb into the cinder block wall. Vein got involved with a double low blows followed by double Bloodshot flatliners for AD and AA. They did triple german suplex where Andrews gave Dallas a german while Dallas gave Christopher and elevated german. All three went on runs of single-handed domination.
Dallas had Christopher pinned with an avalanche TKO but Ravenna pulled the ref out. Dallas hit a double TKO that left all three men down. Vain hit Dallas with a chain and another Bloodshot. Before Christopher could cover the champion, Ace Haven hit the ring and crushed Christopher with a chairshot to the head. Dallas hit the Steel Toe on Christopher and AA was a split second late getting there to break up the pin.
This was an ambitious match put together by fearless men game for anything. No way were these they willing to settle for the typical three way where one guy lays out while the other two fight. They did all kinds of wild three way spots. Some were amazing, others were train wrecks. It wasn't the great match they were aiming for but the action was never dull or predictable. The spots involving Ravenna got the biggest crowd reactions.
NOTES: Zach, Vain and Black worked double shots and headed to NAWA Classic show in Rome after their matches...Walker XIII had to cancel due to scheduling issue with his shoot job...Joseph Void was the ring announcer...Kevin Tubbs was on the rover camera...Harley Haven was helping out with production... Bull Buchanan was backstage with Zach. Bull said he wrestled in the building thirty years ago. He rode in with Ron Starr who was being brought in to stretch some kid, put him in his place. We talked about Bull as Sam McGraw in North Georgia wrestling and agreed on how gifted Billy Black was as a pro wrestler.
